I started learning Korean last summer and am pretty much immersed and obbessed with the language and everything that is Korean according to my parents Their not too far off I suppose either.
I listen to 덩방신기, 빅벵, 비,기미,태양, Se7en, SS501, Smash, FTTS and a few others. But I'd like to widen my korean music base, can anyone reccomend any singers or groups to me?
감사합니다

Oh sure! You like "boy-bands". (I'm a guy, I like girl bands) Try some of these:
SUJU (Super Junior) And they have sub-bands Suju-T and Suju-H
SHINnee
You didn't mention the biggest boy-band, Shinhwa,
Also if you're into grunge-rock Seo Taji or Seo Taji and the boys
ballad (romantic) singers include:
Sung Si Kyung
Lee Seyoung Gi
Lee Sung Chul
Please let me know what you think, and I will be happy to help you.
And don't feel alone. I've been to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharja and even Uhm Al Quain!!

감사합니다 Seoul Survivor!
I'll cave, yes I do prefer male singers to female singers, which is ironic given I want to be a pro singer myself. Truth be told I do like female singers I'm just extremely picky with them, for example I don't like SNSD very much at all but I like the slow songs from the The Grace. When it comes to female singers I like soloists. Like Zhang Ri Lin, BoA. Any suggestions?
I'm in Dubai still, it's stinking hot!

안녕하세요!! Wow, its been a year since this topic's dry but I'll pitch in. Loveholic is probably the best Korean band that I know so far... sadly just when I find out about them, I hear that their lead singer Jisun has left I've also listened to: -Son Dambi -Girls Generation (quite the explosion of cuteness) -Lee Seung Gi This is it for now, its been a short while since my interest for korean culture has flared! Good job on the site!! Phil

ahahah the international K-POP obession!
like khun from 2PM says; "music connects the world" (God, i've been saying that a lot.)
The first band that got me into K POP was DBSK/ TVXQ / Tohoshinki whatever you want to call it.. Then it was Big Bang, and after big bang, i just discovered a whole new world. Here are some worth listening to; DBSK: why did i fall in love with you, mirotic, hug Big Bang : lies, Haru Haru. (some of the solos from G dragon and tae yang are really good.) 2PM, despite all that has happened i still love them. FIGHTING! : again and again, i hate you, 10 point out of 10 Wondergirls: nobody, tell me 8EIGHT my all time fav ballad group: without a heart, goodbye my love 2NE1 great rookie group: fire, i don't care Wheesung: insonmia, trickling Humming urban stereo: luv seat ft wheesung, hawaiin couple, honey moon Epik high: Fan, love love love, 1 minute 1 second SHINee: replay, amigo, ring ding dong Brown eyed girls: Abracadbra, my style SNSD/ girls generation : Gee, Genie, into a new world V.O.S: To Luv ft jae beom, big trouble
I could keep going, but i'll stop there... ^_^ its getting a bit long...

I like SNSD, Super Junior, and Wonder Girls the most, but I like tons of others. Cherry Filter was the first Korean singer I ever heard (Suju was the 2nd, years later, tbh I didn't even know Cherry Filter was a Korean band because I was playing a Japanese game ) and I still really like her music. I also like IU, DBSK, Big Bang, BoA, f(x), and maybe some others I'm not thinking of at the moment @_@

Bleh, I can't stand Korean pop, granted American pop also completely disgusts me, so I couldn't really stand it in any language. You should check out some Korean metal: Magwi 폐허 - This Haunted House Oathean Those are just a couple i've thus found, you can check out a ton more over at http://metal-archives.com/ click on "browse by country" there on the left and then select Korea
